Asset acquisition

A clean exit at an agreed price, with the liability resolved by a credible counterparty.

Virentia ReHab gives exiting asset owners a defined closure pathway and a clean balance sheet: the liability quantified, the asset sold at an agreed price and the rehabilitation delivered.

We acquire the asset and the environmental obligation together, so the liability transfers with the title. We carry the completion risk, deliver the works to the regulator’s standard with our consortium partners, and deliver land that is signed off by the regulator and ready for its next use.

A full transfer is not the only path: there are several structures for divestment, and the right one depends on the owner’s circumstances, the site and the development opportunity ahead of it. The structure is settled through the planning work.

Mine closure and relinquishment

We acquire the asset and the obligation together, so the liability transfers with the title: end-of-life and legacy mines, power stations and prescribed industrial sites across Australia.

We establish what closure requires and where the risk sits. We consult the regulator, the community and Traditional Owners, and agree the closure and relinquishment criteria. The technical, commercial and financial solution is then built to that agreed outcome.

The vendor benefits from a clean exit. We take on the rehabilitation scope and the completion risk, deliver the site to the agreed standard, and position the land for safe and productive use.

  1. Step 1: Assess

What closure requires, where the risk sits

  2. Step 2: Agree

Criteria with the regulator, community and Traditional Owners

  3. Step 3: Acquire

    Asset and obligation together

  4. Step 4: Rehabilitate & remediate

Land returned safe, stable and signed off

  5. Step 5: Land handed back or redeveloped

Contaminated and encumbered land

Legacy industrial and manufacturing sites often carry environmental, planning and financial issues that need to be resolved before their next use can be realised. Virentia ReHab works with asset vendors seeking to divest the land. We buy the site with its obligations, resolve what encumbers it, and stay on as owner, taking the land through remediation and, in time, into redevelopment.

Remediation is delivered by specialist contractors under environmental engineering oversight. Ground that has sat idle comes back as land that can be financed and developed.

What stands behind the commitment

Each transaction is backed by an insurance and structured finance suite, developed with our partners specifically for mine closure and rehabilitation. It is designed to do three things:

  1. Provide the performance guarantee the regulator requires

  2. Fund the works through structured finance

  3. Insure delivery and long-tail risk

What each party walks away with

Vendors

A clean exit at an agreed price with a credible counterparty, and reputational risk managed as regulators, communities and Traditional Owners see a pathway for the land to come back into use.

Regulators

Liability and environmental issues resolved to a defined timeline, to a standard that holds up in the long term.

Communities and Traditional Owners

Ground made safe, a say in what the land becomes, and work that stays in the region while it happens.

Investors

An asset-backed position with the downside insured and a development pathway on the other side of it.
