Virentia ReHab

Liability to restored land.

We partner with asset owners from closure and transition planning through to rehabilitation and relinquishment. Owners who want a clean exit can sell the site and its liability to us.

Virentia ReHab is an independent rehabilitation and remediation division. We partner with owners of end-of-life mines, power stations, contaminated land and industrial sites from closure and transition planning through rehabilitation and remediation to redevelopment. Where an owner seeks to exit an asset, we acquire the site and the environmental liability with the tenure.

End-of-life resource projects and industrial assets often carry a statutory duty to rehabilitate and remediate the underlying land. That obligation stays with the owner until a regulator signs it off, and it costs more with every year it remains unresolved: the provision is re-estimated, the cost rises, and the relinquishment date moves out again. In the meantime the land earns nothing and the reputational exposure remains.

Engaged early, we shape the closure and the remediation around the site’s next use, carry the plan through execution with our consortium partners, and develop what follows with Virentia ReGen. The land moves from liability to productive asset with one accountable partner throughout.

The scale of the industry

$100B+

National rehabilitation liability

240+

Mine closures projected by 2040

160,000+

Contaminated sites nationally

12+

Coal-fired power stations forecast to retire by 2040

This is not tomorrow’s problem. The liability sits on balance sheets today, and it grows every year with the rising cost of construction and compliance.

Engage at any stage. Choose the path.

We work with owners at every stage of end-of-life asset management: ahead of closure, through it, and on sites already in rehabilitation.

The sites we work with

Mine closure and relinquishment

End-of-life and legacy mines, power stations and prescribed industrial sites carrying rehabilitation obligations and financial provisioning. We bring the transition into the closure plan and, where the owner exits, acquire the asset and the obligation together.

Contaminated and encumbered land

Legacy industrial, manufacturing and other brownfield sites held back by contamination, planning or financial encumbrances. We resolve what holds the land back and return it to a use that can be financed and developed.

Working with government

Governments require end-of-life sites returned to a safe, stable and non-polluting condition, able to sustain an approved post-mining land use. That is the outcome Virentia ReHab is built to deliver, and we deliver it alongside the regulator.

Long-term success starts at the front end. We engage departments and policy makers early and on the specifics: the closure or remediation criteria, the assurance position, and the evidence a regulator needs to sign a relinquishment or clear a site from the register. Settling that up front gives government line of sight to the endpoint from day one, and gives us a defined standard to build to.

Whether the site is a mine in closure or a contaminated parcel, responsibility is clear from start to finish. Government, owners and investors deal with a single accountable counterparty that owns the outcome.

The consortium behind a project

For each site we assemble a consortium of specialist firms anchored by our strategic partners and engage them under an integrated commercial arrangement. The asset owner or vendor, the regulator and the investor deal with Virentia, not with six separate firms each carrying its own remit. Delivery, monitoring and relinquishment are priced across the consortium and the insurance suite together.

Our partners page sets out who the specialists are and how the contract works.

Greater long-term certainty, built on rehabilitation outcomes

More certainty from the outset

Where possible, engaging early lets the landform, approvals and next use be settled together, so closure brings fewer surprises and stakeholders transition with greater certainty.

Accountable for the outcome

We seek lasting partnerships, not one-off engagements. We plan for long-term success, deliver with our consortium partners and own the outcome on the ground.

A foundation for what comes next

Regulator-grade closure is a complete outcome in its own right. Where the land has a next use, it starts from rehabilitated and remediated ground, and Virentia ReGen can develop it with our partners.
